The Karibu Carbon Project is Stack Carbon’s flagship initiative, using Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW) to remove atmospheric CO₂ while restoring soil health across Uganda.

By accelerating natural geological processes, Karibu delivers a scalable, high-integrity carbon removal solution designed to endure for centuries.

The Science (How ERW Works)

Karibu mimics the Earth’s natural silicate-carbonate cycle, but at an accelerated pace designed for urgent climate action.

Sourcing & Precision Crushing We source high-quality silicate rocks, such as basalt, from secured regional deposits. The rock is crushed into a fine powder to maximize the reactive surface area.

Field Integration This nutrient-rich rock dust is spread across smallholder farm plots, integrating seamlessly into existing agricultural cycles.

The Geochemical Reaction When rain falls, CO₂ from the atmosphere dissolves in soil moisture to form weak carbonic acid. This reacts with basalt particles, releasing base cations and capturing the carbon.

Permanent Storage The dissolved carbon is converted into stable bicarbonates, which eventually wash into the oceans, where they are stored safely for over 1,000 years.
